Into Film Festival 2015 - Register for Bookings Information Now!

Education charity Into Film is once again pleased to announce that the Into Film Festival, the world’s biggest film festival for children and young people, returns with its UK-wide programme from 4 – 20 November.  Bringing the magic and rich educational value of the big screen to life, and with a strong emphasis on educator value, the festival immerses 5-19-year-olds in the world of film watching and making, many for the first time.  Celebrity supporters include Carey Mulligan, Michael Sheen, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter and Sir Ian McKellen.

Highlights will include premieres and previews of new films, screenings, special events and workshops with industry professionals, accompanied by bespoke teaching resources for use at the festival and in class. All events and screenings are free. Register now for bookings information here.

The Into Film Festival builds on its success in 2014, which saw over 350,000 young people attending screenings and events across the UK.  This annual celebration of film and education is made possible by support from the BFI, Cinema First, a wide collaboration with UK cinema industry partners and festival delivery partners National Schools Partnership.  Into Film is the film education programme for young people aged 5-19 across the UK funded by the BFI (British Film Institute) with National Lottery money.

Throughout the festival over 100 quality films will be screened in over 520 venues across the UK - from the Isle of Skye to Penzance – with 2,700 events happening in all major towns and cities over three weeks. It also travels to remote and socially disadvantaged locations to be fully accessible to everyone. Autism friendly screenings will be on offer to foster inclusivity and, for sensory impaired attendees, subtitling and audio-description.

Headline themes will be: ‘Identity on Film’, ‘Wellbeing’ and ‘Achievement’, with strands including Cultural Perspectives, Express Yourself, Love, Stop and Think, Celebrating British Film and Against all Odds.  Within these a raft of classic and popular titles – encompassing foreign language,  adaptations of novels and plays, documentaries and blockbusters, will be on offer to broaden young people’s horizons and spark discussion about a broad range of issues. Films for primary range from classics like The Sound of Music and Pinnochio to Paddington, Cinderella, Belle et Sebastien, Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The Book of Life. Teaching resources to accompany each strand, designed to support the curricula of all four nations and key calendar events such as Anti-Bullying Week and Black History Month, taking place within the festival’s duration, will be available to download from the Into Film Festival website; these will offer comprehensive teachers’ notes, activity outlines and pupil worksheets.   In addition resources supporting individual films will be offered for the majority of titles as will Into Film Festival guides for different age groups and a Supporting SEN Students resource.

A range of notable speakers from organisations such as NATE, BAFTA, The Industry Trust, The Critics Circle, The BBFC and Magic Light Pictures will host talks to contextualise screenings and workshops on themes ranging from animation and reviewing to copyright, film classification and careers in the film industry.

Teachers and young people who participated in last year’s festival have welcomed its impact.  In a survey 94% of attending educators said they saw the broader educational benefits for their students, 72% said they were more likely to use film or cinema visits to support delivery of the curriculum and 82% of young people said they were more likely to go to the cinema as a result of attending the festival.

The Into Film Festival 2015 will take place from 4-20 November.  Bookings will go live at the beginning of September. To register for regular updates on festival-related news, opportunities and resources visit www.intofilm.org.
