PREPARE TO BE SPELLBOUND BY MAGICAL NEW CBBC SHOW JINX THIS HALLOWEEN

A magical treat is on offer this autumn as Jinx the enchanting new TV series will begin on award-winning CBBC this Halloween, Saturday 31 October 2009.  Based on the best-selling Lulu Baker trilogy of books by Fiona Dunbar, Jinx is jam-packed with comic capers, outlandish antics and mouth-watering treats.

The comedy-drama series Jinx charts the adventures of a truly modern-day Cinderella, Lulu Baker.  Lulu may look like your typical teenager but she has a very cool secret – she’s the proud owner of a magic cookbook.  She can bake mind-reading cakes to outwit her annoying step-brother. She can create an extra-terrestrial to win the class debate on the existence of aliens.  Or brew up some time-leaping lemonade to repeat her favourite moment again and again.  The possibilities are endless and life would be perfect if it wasn’t for the guardian of the book: Cookie.  She’s no sweet fairy godmother – she’s a capricious, mischievous, pleasure-seeking jinx!

Jinx arrives on CBBC in time to raise the spirits at home this Halloween so enjoy a weekly dose of fun and watch out for a special spooky episode too.  Lulu’s recipe doesn’t turn out quite as planned, resulting in laugh out loud, spine-tingling chaos as her infuriating step-brother is transformed into a creepy zombie.  Lulu and her magical cookbook will also provide some festive fun this Christmas, when Lulu enters the Victorian world of the book she’s reading. This final episode “Cake Expectations” airs on Boxing Day.

Teenage star Amber Beattie (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) brings stacks of humour and infectious energy to the lead role of Lulu.  Scottish actor Michael Nardone (Gagarin Way, Royal National Theatre; Black Watch, National Theatre of Scotland,) plays her father and Lucy Chalkley (BBC Two’s Taking the Flak) is her eccentric step-mother who runs a teen magazine and can’t help name dropping her dealings with Miley C!  The mischievous guardian of Lulu’s magical book, Cookie is played by Chizzy Akudolu (Dustbin Baby, Dead Set).  The catchy theme tune, Stir It Up, is by the hot new British girl band Scarlettes.

Tune into Jinx each week on CBBC plus Red Button and iPlayer are also available so you can catch Lulu and her fun-filled calamities and unusual creations anytime – it is THE British TV show every girl would wish for!
