Need Mother's Day inspiration? Sam Lazzaris explores some of Wiltshire’s highlights

Spring is on its way, with bright daffodils bursting out everywhere, and a special date for your diary is Mother's Day, Sunday 19 March. Wiltshire families wishing to make a fuss of the mum in their lives are in luck as the county offers a wealth of activities to suit all tastes and abilities.

Why not give her a market surprise? The Spring Market at Warminster Civic Centre is the perfect place to pick up a special gift for Mother's Day. Many great stalls sell artisan gifts, homemade produce, and delicious treats to sample. It's on Saturday 18 March, 10am-2pm at Warminster Civic Centre.

Maybe celebrate with a special Mothering Sunday lunch with all the trimmings at Beechfield House, in Beenacre, or choose to indulge in a Celebration Afternoon Tea, perhaps arguing whether the jam or the cream is spread first over one of their delicious home made scones. This historic country house is set in eight magnificent acres of grounds so take a stroll through the diverse gardens and be wowed by the splendid ancient trees in the woodland.

Say it with flowers this Mothers Day with a special bouquet from Simply Flowers Wiltshire. They promise to create a unique bunch of flowers of your choice or choose from their Mother's Day selection bouquets.

Treat mum to a free trip on a steam train at Swindon & Cricklade Railway in Swindon with a paid son or daughter's ticket. Take her on a four-mile round trip along Wiltshire's railway and delight in the scenic views along the way. Refresh and refuel by enjoying a tasty treat at the WhistleStop Cafe at Blunsdon Station.

Lucknam Park Hotel, Chippenham, is offering a Mother's Day Floral Basket Workshop as a gift, so she can make her own fresh flower bouquet to take away on the day. She can then indulge in a two course lunch at the stylish and contemporary restaurant, The Brasserie.

Finally, all mums love to receive a Mother's Day card handmade with love from their little ones and The National Trust in Avebury is offering a children's crafting workshop to make a special gift for their mother, Sat 18-Sun 19 March in the barn in the Old Farmyard, 11am-3pm.
