Abbeyfield School invites parents to comment on its extension plans

Parents in Abbeyfield, Chippenham and surrounding areas are invited to view plans for a proposed expansion of Abbeyfield School next week. The secondary school, alongside Wiltshire Council, hosts an event from 5pm to 7.30pm on Wed 11 Jan, when visitors can speak to the design team behind the proposed designs, part of a three-phase plan. If approved, each phase includes space for an additional 150 pupils, totaling an extra 450 pupils by the end of the development. Extra facilities include a new school hall, classrooms, and changing rooms. Completion of the first phase is proposed for September 2025.

Wiltshire councillor Laura Mayes says, “The school needs more space and facilities to meet its rising population of pupils. We are proposing this investment to meet future demand as the need for places increase.”

Abbeyfield School and its Sixth Form Centre is the smaller of Chippenham’s three secondary schools, teaching children aged 11 to 18. Both the secondary school and sixth form centre benefit from the expansion.

Abbeyfield School’s headteacher, Nick Norgrove says, “This is an extremely exciting opportunity for the Abbeyfield community to be part of its future development and ensure the school has the facilities to continue to grow and provide a high quality educational experience for many years to come.”
