Running for Resilience

Wiltshire families are invited by the children’s charity Youth Adventure Trust to participate in their Virtual Resilience Challenge this Feb half term between Sat 11 and Sun 19 Feb or Sat 19 or Sun 26 Feb. The challenge involves running, riding, rambling, skiing, scooting or swimming 25, 65 or 100 kilometres at your own pace throughout the week. Challenge participants aim to raise funds matching the kilometres they cover with the money they raise supporting the over 100 children currently supported by the charity.

A participant in the 2021 challenge, Rachel says “The resilience challenge has given us a focus for our walks and a target to aim for. It has pushed us to walk further, to go outside despite the wind and the rain. Not just funds for an inspiring organisation, but to raise resilience in ourselves at a time when perhaps it is needed more than ever.”

The Youth Adventure Trust supports children and young people in building their confidence and resilience. According to the charity, only 10% of children in the UK play in natural spaces with prison inmates now spending more time outside, and to improve this statistic they have created the Virtual Resilience Challenge to encourage children and their families to play in more natural spaces whether that be a local woodland or park.

If you would like to participate in the Virtual Resilience Challenge, you can contact the Resilience Challenge Manager Natalie Levin, or visit the Youth Adventure Trust website.
