New Silverwood School Rowde campus reaches milestone

Wiltshire parents and carers whose children have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will soon have more schooling options thanks to new facilities under construction at Silverwood School’s Rowde campus. These promise to provide places for 350 additional pupils by autumn 2023, while the new buildings include specialist teaching and therapy spaces, plus areas for quiet dining. Additionally, construction is scheduled to start next year on a hydrotherapy pool, an all-weather sports pitch, and new playing fields.

Wiltshire Council has invested £38 million in the project to help increase places in specialist schools for SEND children in the county, while Silverwood School, founded in September 2020, has campuses in Trowbridge, Chippenham and Rowde catering for ages 4 to 19.

Silverwood School pupils and staff, plus councillors and representatives of construction company Willmott Dixon celebrated the “topping-out” of the new facility by signing a structural beam at the highest point of the building.

Councillor Jane Davies says, “We were here for the groundbreaking earlier this year and now we are back marking another key milestone. We are committed to providing more SEND places in Wiltshire and this major commitment here at Silverwood shows we are ready to invest and provide places where they are needed.” Silverwood School’s executive headteacher, Sean McKeown adds “We are absolutely delighted we are getting closer to the day when we can start to use this much needed new facility.”
