At Wiltshire Council leisure centres families can swim together, gym together and attend classes together

Being active as a family is a great way to spend time together while keeping fit and having fun! Depending on the age of your children, you can do a range of exercise and sports activities as a family group.

Swim

All centres with swimming pools offer Aqualetes swimming lessons for children, following the Swim England Learn to Swim pathway. The centres’ qualified teachers offer you a great start to your child’s swimming experience and provide them with the skills and knowledge to enjoy their time in the water, now and in the future. This could also potentially set them up for a career in leisure or open up a whole range of hobbies as they get older.

Swimmers on the Aqualetes programme also get free swimming during public sessions to help them hone their skills and put their learning into practice.

Gym

Junior gym memberships start from £9.99 per month and enable young people to start an active lifestyle in the gym from 12 years old, with cardio equipment available for use up to 14, before fixed resistance machines can be used. Juniors can access the gym during dedicated junior gym sessions or alongside a responsible adult who has a gym induction – meaning you really can train together.

There are also a variety of other opportunities to be sporty across the council’s centres with gymnastics available at The Activity Zone in Malmesbury, Lime Kiln Leisure Centre in Royal Wootton Bassett, Five Rivers Health and Wellbeing Centre in Salisbury and Springfield Community Campus in Corsham. Climbing is also available at Springfield and you can do trampolining at Trowbridge Sports Centre alongside diving, provided in specific lessons from poolside.

Get Active!

If badminton, table-tennis or squash is your thing then centres with sports halls offer the ability to book courts and get competitive between yourselves! Wiltshire Council’s team looks forward to welcoming you to your local centre this month.
