Enterprising Spirit

Pupils at Mountford Manor Primary School in Swindon are learning to develop their entrepreneurial skills as part of a programme known as The Bumbles of Honeywood. The programme aims to help children become more enterprising and boost awareness about careers available in the construction industry through a series of lesson plans that also support other areas of learning, such as literacy, numeracy and modern languages. “The programme is built around a series of beautifully illustrated books and interactive extension activities that explore the enterprising nature of honeybees and other characters to help children develop skills such as resilience, problem solving, leadership, communication and teamwork,” organisers say. The Bumbles of Honeywood programme has been put together by business leaders, educators and teachers and Mountford Manor is one of 170 schools across the country taking part. “The Bumbles of Honeywood programme complements our existing PSHE curriculum and is thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of the children at our school,” says headteacher Lee Edmonds. “This programme not only gives the pupils at our school vital skills for their future lives, it also gets them thinking about what career they could aspire to.”
