Blue Cross advice on supporting children through pet loss

Pet Charity Blue Cross is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its Pet Loss Support Service this year, which offers a helpline and advice to people experiencing pet loss, and as part of this the charity is offering advice to parents on how to support their children through such circumstances.

Often, parents can be tempted to tell their child a white lie when the family pet dies as shown in research conducted by Blue Cross, however, it is important to be honest and open about the situation, and there are plenty of tips on Blue Cross’s website on how to navigate this.

Blue Cross has also created a children’s workbook which provides advice to parents on navigating sensitive conversations and activities to help children remember their pet.
