Why we are all Bourn to Run

Helping to organise an important annual fundraiser for her children’s primary school has never been more rewarding, describes Chloe Brown.

Moving out of the city and into the rurality of Bourn, has been full of advantages, but what I did not expect was the all-encompassing warmth of a tight knit community, and what that can accomplish.

A few months into my children’s time at Bourn Primary Academy, I was asked if I wanted to join a group of seven parents, to help organise the school’s annual fundraiser, Bourn to Run.

Now in its 15th year, participants who lace up their trainers on 17th September 2023, will find something for everyone. Families can thrive in the 3K race, intermediate and experienced runners can test themselves on the 10K trail running route, and supporters can join in by soaking up the carnival atmosphere.

Showcasing all the village has to offer, swathes of local businesses are involved, and there is entertainment from face painting to pottery, yoga, music, a toddler dash and fancy dress.

There will be plenty of varied refreshments on offer, including a BBQ, hot and cold drinks, a cake stand and ice cream van.

Walking to school, I asked my children what they love about the event the most, and they said it was how everyone cheers each other on as they run the race, whether they are at the front or the back.

Cohesive and inspiring, just like its community.
