Review: I’m not a huge poetry fan. I don’t understand why you have to use long words that you don’t understand just to rhyme with ‘but’ or ‘butt’. Why don’t we just say what we mean? Most of the stuff in this book doesn’t even seem like poems to me.  My Mum said have a go…

I am James

I have no flames

Nothing else rhymes with my name.

Oh ‘names’ does.

sweets he ate made him all spotty. The bully stopped being horrible. I liked the book, especially
the pictures.

The first book, Penny Dreadful is a Magnet for Disaster, was shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize. BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: I loved the pictures of the characters in this book.  They gave me good ideas who they were.   I enjoyed the first story best.  I thought the babysitter was the funniest especially when he dressed as a hooligan. I liked that Penny was talking all the way through it.  It made it feel like her story.  I also liked the bit about ‘rock, paper, scissors’ as we play this a lot but not the way Penny played it. She thought that nothing was her fault when everything was her fault.  My brother does this so I am used to it. I did enjoy the other two stories but the first one was definitely the best.

Review: The class teacher is a witch and the story is really weird and funny. Nits go to all schools

Review: I thought this was going to be a boys book and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.  Dennis has to keep a diary over the holiday and it’s quite funny. It is quite boyish with lots of bums
and burps but made me laugh too. 3 stars (although a boy who burps a lot and says ‘bum’ in every conversation, may give it more).

Review: The plot is Cunning and the characters are quite funny. I liked the names they had.
I liked the dogs who are called Tiddles, Pickles, Pansy, Fluffy and Muffin.  The last one is called Norman which is a boring name ( sorry all Normans).

Made me giggle but not my favourite book.

Nan's Little Night-Time Stories
By
Joan C. White

Published by: Arthur H.Stockwell Ltd
ISBN:  072234273X

A kidnapped princess, an adventurous field mouse, a flea-ridden
mongrel, two little spiders and a pair of carpet nails - these are some
of the whimsical characters you will meet in Nan's Little Night-Time Stories. For many years Joan C White would tell her granddaughters one of her 'little stories' before they drifted off to sleep at bedtime, and now five of the best have been selected for other children to enjoy. BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: These were unusual stories and I’m not sure why they were bedtime ones because one of them was quite scary. I didn’t really enjoy them as they were a bit odd and I can’t imagine my Nana telling them to me as she would tell much better stories. Biff and his Friends the Fleas was probably the best one as the fleas went onto the posh dogs and annoyed them. I thought this was a good bit and it made me laugh. I wouldn’t tell my friends to read this book as I have read much better books especially for bedtime.

Agatha Parrot and the Thirteenth Chicken

Agatha Parrot is the most exciting and hilarious comedy series since Mr Gum! But don’t take our word for it . . . take hers! Hiya! One night me and my friends had to look after some baby chickens but one of them disappeared.  BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: I loved this book from start to finish.  The characters were so funny and the story made me and my brother really laugh. The funniest bit was when Martha put her foot down the toilet, and the bit about the cactus was brilliant too. I would tell everyone to read this book especially if you like funny stories and I would give it 5 stars.

Review: I enjoyed this story but it was a bit hard to follow.  I like Sleeping Beauty so I don’t know why they needed to change it and make it harder to understand.

Famous Five and a Half Term Adventure
By Enid Blyton

Published by: Hodder Children's Books

George's dog Timmy sniffs out an adventure when he spots some suspicious-looking passengers on a train. He is very interested in one of them, but what has he spotted? Can the Famous Five solve this mystery?BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review:  I liked this adventure although it was all over very quickly. I think their Aunt summed it up when she said ‘what a collection of children you are – you can’t even go for a walk without something happening to you’ I go for loads of walks and never have an adventure.  I am waiting for one though. My favourite character is Timmy as he only ever barks but everyone seems to understand him. A good story with funny pictures and a good ending.  I would recommend it to my friends because you can read it fast and it’s fast paced.

Review: This book made me want to start my own drawing diary.  From the very first page it’s funny and clever. You see the pictures Ellie draws and pictures of Ellie when things happen to her. You also get her ramblings which are brilliant. If I had to spend time with these people I wouldn’t be as calm as Ellie especially when Tiffany wees through the bunk bed onto her! You cannot have this book read to you. You have to read it yourself so you can see the pictures for it to make sense. I loved the stuff at the end about how to draw and all the tips.

Review: Some parts I liked and some I didn’t. I liked that I now have a new way to trick mum into buying me things.  Just follow the information on page 59. But I didn’t like Mr Halitosis.  He made me feel sick and was a very boring teacher. It was a bit hard to follow sometimes and a lot to do with Cambridge where I have never been. I wouldn’t recommend this book to my friends as I have read much better books.

The Ellie McDoodle Diaries – New Kid in School

But when her new classmates start complaining about long lunch lines (and bad food), Ellie jumps at the chance to lead a protest. And tackling the school cafeteria just might be the perfect way to make new friends!
BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: Very funny first page.  These diaries are brilliant.  They are good for in the car as there is loads to see in them as well as the story. Ellie starts a new school and doesn’t get on very well. I think this book could help anyone starting in a new school as she wins in the end and makes lots of friends. Tried to make an origami piano but just ended up with a scrunched bit of paper.  My brother got about halfway and then realised he was folding up his homework!!!

Good story and great pictures.  4 ½ stars

Review: I enjoyed this book.  I was glad there was a list of the characters at the start as this
helped me understand who they were.  Their names were funny too. The School hamster goes
home every weekend with a child from the class and has adventures.
We had our school hamster Strawberry home but he didn’t drive any cars!  I would have liked it
if he had. It made me think that maybe we could race all the Hamsters in our school to see who
wins but I don’t think we would be allowed. At the start of the story I was confused who was
talking but I got used to it. My friends would like this story as one hamster in our school got out
of his cage and set off the alarms in the middle of the night.

Review: The picture on the front of this book made me think it was going to be a horror story but it wasn’t as bad as that. It’s about a boy who is sent to take cake to the mountain spirits but he eats it and I thought that he was going to get into awful trouble but the outcome surprised me a bit. Quite an interesting story and I would recommend it to my friends.

Review: I liked all the stuff about the Romans in this book.  At the back is a list of interesting things too.  We have done some stuff about the Romans in school and Harry had to wear a metal helmet

There are six of these books and they all have game cards in them.  I enjoyed the story but it is not
my favourite book.

On the morning of his tenth birthday he finds his parents ill, and they ask him not just to go in the shop but to look after it on his own! Will he be able to keep the stripemongery running smoothly? BUY IT ON AMAZON

Review: I loved this story.  It was very unusual.  Even though it was totally made up and would never happen, when I was reading it I thought it might be able to happen. I thought I might try and make a Quantum Chromatic Disruption Machine and make some money but mum said ‘No’. I liked
the Clootie Whanger character and that she and Boyface got so friendly so quickly. I would recommend this story to anyone who likes something a bit different.

Review: I love Horrid Henry on telly and this book is just as good and they are new stories. All the usual characters are there like Moody Margaret, Perfect Peter and Rude Ralph and Henry is still very, very naughty! I liked Horrid Henry’s Chicken best.  I didn’t know Henry was afraid of chickens.  He gets to take the school one home for the holidays. It made me laugh because I am afraid of chickens too.  It’s their feet. All very funny.

Review: I am a big HH fan.  Love it on telly and love the books too.  My sis is a bit like Moody Margaret although she thinks she is like Gorgeous Gurinder. The best one in the book is definitely Horrid Henry’s Holiday.  We went camping last year and when we woke up in the morning my Dad’s face had frozen to the side of the tent so I know how Henry feels in the cold. I also enjoyed the 20 facts about Henry at the end of the book.  The best answer was to ‘What was Miss Battle Axe like when she was little?’ I would recommend this to anyone who is naughty.

Review: My favourite character in the book was Grandpa Al as I have a Grandpa Al myself.
I also liked Mr Chimp and all his signs. I found the story hard to concentrate on and kept losing my place and forgetting what I had read.  It didn’t really grip me like some books do. I’m not into science that much.  When we made a working volcano at my Grandpa Al’s house it didn’t work! I would recommend this to people who enjoy working things out and inventing things.

Review:  This was a good adventure and I liked that Timmy the dog was the brave one.
I thought it wasn’t going to be much of a story at first but then the men on the motorbikes came
and it got much faster and more interesting. My mum said she used to read Famous Five and they were much longer. I liked that it was quite short but I was disappointed that I didn’t find out who
the nasty men were or what was in their bag!!  That would have finished it off better for me.
Good mystery though.

Review: This was a funny book and I liked the way that sometimes the pictures were part of the story.  It meant I was never bored because you had to pay attention. I loved the ‘Truly scrumptious perfectly poisonous jam sandwich flavoured fudge’ and also working out the mirror writing.
My friends would love this story, especially the last page.

Review: I thought this book was quite good, especially the end (which I won’t spoil for you). I kept thinking that if you didn’t know you were a superhero, maybe I might be one.  That would be awesome. I like that he went from knowing nothing and making loads of mistakes to saving the world from the Green Meanie. Some of the words were funny too like ‘gigantinator’, ‘zwooob’ and ‘kerblaamm!’ I thought it was a bit long and when we were reading it I wanted to get to the end but it took ages.

Review: I really loved this story because I enjoy stories about faries and their adventures. My favorite character was fluff tail. I couldn't stop reading this book as I wanted to know what happened to fluff tail and his home. I can't wait to read the other books in the series.

Review: I really like this series of books! This is the second one I have read. The story was great, it really kept , me interested with all the woodland creatures.  Although I was a little disappointed that fluff tail the rabbit wasn't in it as he was my favorite character in the other book I have read in this series.I still found this book exciting and funny and really enjoyed reading it.
