Finding ways to entertain children during the school holidays can be tricky, but the world-exclusive Dinosaurs of China exhibition stomping into Nottingham this summer promises to give even the most restless child a roar-some experience.

Taking place from 1st July to 29th October, children will be amazed by some of the largest dinosaurs in the world, including the magnificent Mamenchisaurus - a dinosaur skeleton the height of three double decker buses and the great Gigantoraptor - the largest feathered dinosaur in the world.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for grandparents, families and children to see the spectacular ground shakers to feathered flyers exhibition over the summer holidays with each 3D mounted skeleton, detailed replicas and original fossils never having been seen outside Asia before.

Telling the story of how dinosaurs evolved into birds, the event will span two family-friendly sites with Wollaton Hall hosting the main exhibition over the summer holidays. The second exhibition at Nottingham University’s public arts centre, Nottingham Lakeside Arts will welcome the Alxasaurus and the Dilophosaurus which together with the university's own Life Science collection and a whole host of family-friendly activities, will explore how dinosaurs may have looked.

Dr Adam Smith, Curator at the Nottingham Natural History Museum, Wollaton Hall said: “This exhibition is a one-time opportunity for families to experience a fantastic collection of some of the world’s best preserved dinosaurs, with many having only been discovered in the last 20 years.

“We wanted the exhibition to be a truly unforgettable experience for children and families where they could learn all about dinosaurs. Exciting hands-on activities will take visitors on an evolutional journey, re-living the story of how dinosaurs evolved into the birds which we see today.

“Children will also have the opportunity to visit the Dino Explorers Zone at Wollaton Hall to meet the friendly Hunter - a 4m high animatronic Sinraptor before following a trail of clues to Nottingham Lakeside Arts where exciting activities will be awaiting them including building their own Lego dinosaur and becoming a hunter for the day in search of lifelike fossils.”

Cllr David Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Nottingham City Council added: "We are looking forward to welcoming a number of visitors to Dinosaurs of China from all over the UK and beyond. It is a family friendly exhibition that will excite both adults and children, with interactive displays and trails throughout as well as a dinosaur activity marquee for children in the formal gardens at Wollaton Hall."

Speaking about the Dinosaurs of China exhibition, Professor Sir David Greenaway, Vice Chancellor of The University of Nottingham, said, “The University of Nottingham has established strong and diverse partnerships in China over the 13 years since we opened our Ningbo campus. It is as a result of these relationships that we are now able to bring this unique, world-exclusive exhibition to the city, and we are delighted to be partnering with Nottingham City Council on this project.

“This unique exhibition, which is taking place both at Wollaton Hall and Nottingham Lakeside Arts here at the University, will raise awareness of how dinosaurs evolved into birds, and will help to attract visitors to Nottingham from all over the world.”

Tickets for the Wollaton Hall exhibition are now on sale. Prices are £7.70 for an adult and £5.50 for a child. There is a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) for £22.00. Children under five go free and the event welcomes school parties at a reduced price. Entry to the Nottingham Lakeside Arts exhibition is free of charge.
