Parents call for support in teaching their children about managing money
More than half of British parents agree that primary schools play an important role in preparing children for financial challenges in later life, according to new research[1]commissioned by Experian.
The findings discovered that three in five of parents[2] are concerned their children will be unable to successfully manage their finances in the future, but more than half of mums and dads
(55%)[3]agree that primary schools help build children’s confidence in dealing with finances and managing their money.
James Jones at Experian said: “It is really interesting that more parents are seeing primary schools as a source of support in educating children in financial literacy. The free, cross-curricular resources we have designed enable teachers to educate children and help create a generation of young people who are money-savvy.
“By using these resources, teachers can reassure parents that their children are being taught the principles of money management. In addition to this, parents can also benefit from the resources and use them with their children to learn together.”
Experian developed the Values, Money and Me programme to offer teachers and families a variety of learning opportunities and free resources to help young people develop their attitudes and values around money, as well as their financial knowledge and abilities.
The resources were developed by working closely with young people and teachers, and have been made available at a time when children are taking on financial responsibilities at an increasingly young age.
