Blue Peter to launch ‘Awesome Animation’ competition, offering fans the chance to create their own creature alongside makers of Wallace and Gromit

Blue Peter fans have the opportunity to design their own prehistoric creature alongside Aardman, the Academy Award® winning animators behind Wallace and Gromit, Shaun the Sheep and upcoming film Early Man, thanks to a new competition launching on Thursday.

The ‘Awesome Animation’ competition asks viewers to design their own prehistoric creature inspired by the world of Nick Park's new film Early Man, released in UK cinemas on January 26th 2018. Entrants must send in an A4 page drawing of their design with a paragraph describing their creation.

The winner will visit Aardman to see their creation brought to life by the expert team in Bristol and receive tickets to the premiere of the film, when they’ll be in with a chance of meeting the stars which include Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston.

Judging will have three age categories: age 6 to 8, age 9 to 11 and age 12 to 15. A top entry from each category will be selected before an overall winner is chosen. The overall winner will have their creature brought to life by the Aardman team and presented to them as a prize. The 2 runners up along with the overall winner will each receive tickets to the premiere.

Ewan Vinnicombe, Blue Peter Editor said: “Blue Peter competitions continue to receive thousands of entries and give our viewers incredible experiences and money can’t buy prizes. ‘Awesome Animation’ will offer one lucky winner the unique opportunity to have their design brought to life by one of the world’s leading animation companies and we are so excited to see what children all over the UK come up with.”

Nick Park, creator of Wallace and Gromit, Director of Early Man and Gold Blue Peter badge holder, said: “With animation you can make anything come to life, so get involved in this amazing competition and see where your imagination takes you.”

Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of courageous caveman hero Dug (Eddie Redmayne) and his best friend Hognob as they unite his tribe against mighty enemy Lord Nooth (Tom Hiddleston) and his Bronze Age City to save their home.

In partnership with Aardman and STUDIOCANAL, ‘Awesome Animation’ launches on 21 September during Blue Peter (1730 on CBBC), closing at midday on 12 October.

Blue Peter will announce the winner of the competition in January. For full details, visit: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/shows/blue-peter
