Fight your instincts, not the water

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) latest campaign is giving advice about what to do should you find yourself in unexpectedly cold water. Panicking, swimming and removing your clothes will shorten your chances of survival and the new campaign focuses on floating as a key survival skill in such circumstance. Floating on your back gives you time to get over the shock of immersion in cold water, allows you to calm your breathing, and keeps your airway clear before deciding on your next move.
