Celestes Circus Childrens Choice Award review
There was really nothing not to love in this show. Celeste introduces her cast of lovable circus animals using simple but inspired puppetry. She proves perfectly that you need ingenuity, not a high budget to put on a great show.
OK. I think I’m just a little bit in love with Celeste and I wish she could entertain my 2 x two year olds for 35 minutes every day. This charming show is the result of real creativity and talent. Celeste obviously understands her audience perfectly and produces a gorgeous mix of colour, visual simulation, and fun, without being over the top or overwhelming for the little ones. There was no crying in this audience – just a sea of little pairs of eyes glued to the front. There was really nothing not to love in this show. My 6-year-old daughter said “I loved the animals and the lady’s voice!” which was indeed very calm and soothing. Great quirky background music. Both 2 year olds were highly engaged for the entire performance. I think she might be the toddler whisperer! The venue (Scottish Storytelling Centre) was great. My double buggy got in easily via John Knox House entrance. There was a large area cordoned off for our buggies and to allow the littlies to run around and explore before the show started. So don’t be afraid of turning up a little early to get yourself sorted out and allow the young to stretch their legs and make friends. There is also a nice looking café if you wanted to stay for lunch afterwards. I remember looking for fringe shows for under 3’s when my older daughter was two and there was very little to be found. This whole performance caters completely for even the youngest of festival goers, with the additional added bonus of my 6 and half year old loving it too!
