Amazing Bubble Man Primary Times Children's Choice Awards Review
There is a reason that Louis Pearl, who is better known as the ‘Amazing Bubble Man’, has sold out for the 10 years at the Edinburgh Fringe – you just can’t beat the joy and wonder all ages feel at the seemingly impossible things he can do with beautiful bubbles.
Having seen him before a few years ago I was very curious how he would get on in the much larger venue of the Udderbelly as in the past the closeness has given a real cosy feel, in that you can often touch some of the bubbles. He used the space to great advantage encouraging us to cheer when the bubbles make it to the top of the ceiling and the use of lighting to illuminate certain bubbles added real wonder.
The show has also been extended and improved since I last saw it to include a gentle and often comedic musical accompaniment from Jet Black Pearl and helium to get the balloons to rise which really added to the show.
More importantly all the best bits are still there including using random everyday objects to make bubbles (my favourite being a croc!), juggling bubbles, square bubbles and smoke bubbles. I won’t list them all so as not to spoil the surprise but pretty much every type of bubble you can think of and some you would never have imagined. He also adds to some of the usual bubble shows by adding a smattering of science and stories (but not too much given the young audience). I would definitely recommend and we had to buy bubble mix on the way home…
