FOUR SCHOOLS WIN BIG IN THE GRO-SURE CHALLENGE COMPETITION
Four pupils from across the UK and Ireland have won cash prizes for their schools through the Unwins Gro-sure Challenge.
The Gro-sure Challenge began earlier this year with Unwins challenging consumers to start growing their own using the Gro-sure seeds range.
The Challenge also involved garden centres across the country nominating their local school to receive £200 gardening vouchers to get them started and to help develop their school gardens.
Those schools taking part, of which there were 150, were then eligible to take part in the Gro-sure Challenge Schools Competition to win £1,000 for their school. The competition involved pupils creating a drawing of what they thought their dream Gro-sure garden would look like in the year 2050.
Over 100 entries were sent in from schools with four winners chosen from four set regions; North, Central, South and Ireland. Clare Foggett, Editor of leading gardening magazine; Garden News chose the winning entries.
Julie Stigwood, Product Manager for Westland Horticulture said, “The Gro-sure Challenge hasbeen the perfect way to encourage people to grow their own using the Unwins Gro-sure seed range and we are delighted to have been able to work with the schools this year. The entries were fantastic for our schools challenge and it was certainly a very tough decision.”
All four schools are set to spend their winning prize on their gardening projects within the schools. The winning pupils are:
IRELAND -Aobhna Buckley from St. Mary’s National School in Waterford nominated by McGuire’s Garden Centre.
NORTH – Joe Cebrero from Our Lady & St. Edwards Catholic Primary School in Preston nominated by Barton Grange garden centre.
CENTRAL – Harrison Foster from Tidbury Green School in Solihull nominated by Earlswood Nurseries & Landscapes
