Lewis Glucksman Gallery Creative Workshops

These fun and informal workshops introduce schools, clubs and community groups to the different techniques and styles of making art. The workshops will run throughout the Glucksman exhibitions Mixtapes: Popular Music in Contemporary Art and From the Sources (June 8 – October 24, 2010). Working with experienced artists, participants will gain a hands-on understanding of how different materials can be used and how visual art can communicate ideas around music.  

Colour in Art: Painting and Form

Focus: Introducing techniques of colour mixing, application and experimentation in painting

Suitability: all ages

Duration: 90 minutes

Fee: €90

Facilitator: Mary Moakley

Availability: Thursday and Friday mornings (all year)

This workshop will provide participants with an understanding of colour theory and mixing, exploring the techniques used in Impressionist, Cubist and Expressionist art movements

Frame-by-Frame: Comic Books and Narrative

Focus: Looking at how illustration and narrative are combined to create comic books, flick books, and basic animations

Suitability: all ages

Duration: 90 minutes

Availability: Wednesday and Friday mornings (all year)

Through demonstrations and activities involving illustration, writing stories and formatting, this workshop will show how participants can combine visual images and text to make their own comic book artworks

Mixtapes / From the Sources Workshop (available from June 8 – October 24, 2010)

Art of Noise: Posters and Album Covers

Focus: Using various techniques of collage, drawing, text and painting to design posters

Suitability: all ages

Duration: 90 minutes

Fee: €90

Facilitator: Anna Crudge

Availability: Tuesday and Thursday mornings (during the exhibitions Mixtapes and From the Sources)

Through a discussion of examples of graphic design, participants will use methods of collage, illustration and text to create their very own posters
