Speaking at the school, Minister O’Keeffe said: ‘I’m delighted to be here in Balinteer to celebrate the official opening of this impressive new school which will enhance teaching and learning for students in the area for many years.
‘It’s a fine example of the Government’s ongoing school-building programme which has been ramped up over the past decade to meet the accommodation needs of students and teachers.
'This year, the Government's allocation for the school-building programme is €614 million.
'The announcements I’ve made so far as Minister on large-scale school-building projects moving to tender and construction will benefit over 30,000 primary and post-primary students.
'Information Communications Technology is an integral part of teaching in Ballinteer.
'I'm delighted to learn that there are four computer rooms and 250 computers here.'
Minister O'Keeffe also praised the sports facilities at Ballinteer Community School.
'The impressive all-weather pitch, gym and basketball court will benefit not only the students but the entire Balinteer community.
‘Participation in sports brings an appreciation of personal health and fitness, develops a positive self-image and teaches young people how to work as part of a team,’ said Minister O’Keeffe.
