A great opportunity to get an Early Years qualification while you’re working.

An Early Years Foundation Degree, which provides an exciting opportunity for people working with babies, toddlers and young children in education and childcare settings, gives you professional knowledge, skills and understanding; and all while you continue earning. So if you’re looking to enhance your career prospects in the early years sector, look no further than University Centre Folkestone.

The specialist course is ideal for professionals with an A-level qualification or equivalent (an orientation course is offered if you don’t have this) who are looking for part time study. With one day each week required to be spent in ‘contact time’ on campus and two modules completed each term, you’ll develop your childcare skills quickly and have your Foundation Degree completed in just two years.

Practical and theory-based learning covers children’s development of communication, problem solving and creativity, enabling you to help young people understand their sense of place. You’ll also study the politics, legislation and practices which underpin early years education and care, as well as children’s emotional well-being, health, safety and growth.

And it doesn’t stop there. Once you’ve completed the  Foundation Degree you could choose a third year ’top up’ with BA Hons Early Years Studies and gain a full University degree.

To take the course, you just need to be working (paid or voluntary for at least 15 hours per week) with 0-5 year olds, and have at least two year’s experience in this field. You’ll also need a GCSE at grade C or equivalent in English Language and have (or be expected to) gain an A-Level or equivalent. Especially important is the support of your employer who must sign the application form and learning agreement.

It is worth noting that you may be eligible for a bursary. We can point you in the direction of the most up to date information.
