Established to celebrate British wildlife and highlight the great diversity and wealth of British Natural history, these awards also aim to raise awareness, encourage discovery, exploration and conservation. There are two special awards for young people.
1) Schools, Youth and Community Group Award - prize £1,000
2) Young British Wildlife Photographer - under 18's. - prize £500
The more we can encourage young people to explore our countryside, whether as individuals or as part of a school project or youth group activity, the more likely it is that the next generation will help to protect Britain's habitats and wildlife.
Benefits
These awards provide a learning platform for teachers to develop children's respect of the world in which they live. The benefits of these prestigious awards are three fold: An educational activity to engage children in British wildlife An opportunity for schools to win prize money for new resources The prospect of promoting excellence in your school around the country.
Winning images and pictures receiving judges commendations will form part of a series of nationwide exhibitions and appear in a prestigious photographic book. Entries can be submitted from an individual or school / youth centre.

1) Schools, Youth and Community Group Award
There are no specific categories and any aspect of British wildlife will be considered.Each class, school, community or youth group can work together to produce a portfolio of up to five images, based on a theme of their choice. Your theme could be: a series of animal portraits, behavior, a set of images that tell a story, artistic interpretation of a subject, studies showing wildlife and a sense of place, wildlife in its environment / habitat, plants and partners (eg: insects and flowers) and any other themes you can create. All species and subjects are eligible. Have a look at the adult categories for ideas and inspiration.
The title of British Wildlife Photography Award for Schools Youth and Community Groups will be given to the group who submit the portfolio judged to be the most memorable, striking, original and imaginative set of themed images.
The prize will be £1000.
2) Young British Wildlife Photographer Award (under 18)
This is open to anyone under the age of 18 on 4th June 2010 .You can enter pictures of any British wildlife. There are no specific categories and all species will be considered. It can be an animal portrait, wildlife behavior or action, artistic interpretation of a subject, wildlife in your garden, the hidden world of tiny creatures under stones, logs and in rock pools. Wildlife that lives in parks, towns, houses and buildings and the wealth of wildlife in the countryside and at the coast. Explore and discover Britain's natural and urban environments, and its bounty of wildlife species including birds, mammals, insects, reptiles, amphibians and marine life.

The title of Young British Wildlife Photographer will be given to the photographer whose single image is judged to be the most striking and memorable of all the young entries.
The prize will be £500.
The awards are sponsored by Natural England,the governments advisor on the natural environment andsupported by several major charities including the WWF, The Wildlife Trusts, The National Trust and The National Trust for Scotland.
