Put the Ooo back into food 2009

Order British Food Fortnight's acclaimed FREE resource for schools

"The British Food Fortnight resources are fantastic."  School Meals Development Officer, Wolverhampton City Council

"A wonderful resource!  Saved me hours of work this weekend."  Subscriber to TES

"British Food Fortnight's initiative sending chefs into schools is invaluable and we love being involved."  BBC's Hairy Bikers celebrity chefs

The organisers of British Food Fortnight (19 Sept - 4 Oct 2009) are again inviting schools to teach children how to prepare simple meals using Britain's in-season produce and to enter the British Food Fortnight 'Cook for Life' Challenge, sponsored by Kenwood, for the opportunity to win class sets of cookery equipment.

We have produced a FREE guide for your school.  It is A4 6 pages and includes: best practice examples of how schools have incorporated cookery within their curriculum activities and details of how schools can win cooking equipment.

To order copies of this year's resource, please let us know how many copies you require (max. 4 per school) and the name, address and telephone number of the person to whom they should be sent.  Guides will be dispatched in early May.

Why should your school take part?

This year's challenge is to use British seasonal foods to design and cook a meal that contains a healthy balance of the food groups the body needs and hence it complements perfectly the Government's Change4Life initiative.

The 110 most imaginative schools taking part will win Kenwood cooking equipment and all schools taking part have the opportunity to purchase cooking equipment at a 50% discount.

Secondary schools can use the event as an opportunity to get ready for the move towards compulsory food technology in 2011.

Primary schools can use the event to make sure that food stays on the curriculum in their schools.  It is the best way to guarantee the healthy well-being of your pupils!

See www.lovebritishfood.co.uk for all the latest advice on how to take part including: our film on why it is best to buy British, the new 'Buying British' pages and our new 'Want to buy British' service to help you find British food in the supermarkets.

British Food Fortnight 2008 was sponsored by Budgens, ARAMARK and the Department of Health's 5 A DAY Just Eat More (fruit & veg) programme and features the 'Cook for Life' Challenge, sponsored by Kenwood
