HAVE A BIOBLITZ IN YOUR SCHOOL!
A “BioBlitz” is an event that engages people with biodiversity, inviting them
to get directly involved in surveying and monitoring their surrounding wildlife. During 2010 – International Year of Biodiversity – BioBlitz events have taken place all over the UK.
We are encouraging schools to get outdoors and see what wildlife is living in their grounds by holding their very own BioBlitz! A BioBlitz links in to several learning areas of your school’s Key Stage 2 National Curriculum. Furthermore they can be run very easily with very little preparation or equipment.
There are three different ways you might choose to structure your BioBlitz: Contribute to a national nature survey; Invite a wildlife expert to run a BioBlitz at your school or organise your own BioBlitz challenge. Your BioBlitz could also take the format of a walk around the school grounds, or a challenge during a lesson. Fact sheets and online nature sites can help identify unusual finds, or a wildlife expert can help you identify what you have seen.
