New Tower Bridge Education Pack
Victorian marvel Tower Bridge is brought to life for KS2 pupils and teachers with a new education pack. This excellent new resource, produced in partnership with the Guy Fox History Project, provides a fun and fascinating way for pupils to explore the national curriculum and the subject of Victorian Britain.
Hailed as the great engineering marvel of its age, Tower Bridge is as impressive today as when it was first opened in 1894. On a visit to Tower Bridge pupils can explore the Engine Rooms that house the restored steam machinery that was originally used to power the bridge lifts, climb the magnificent stone towers to see the massive iron cross supports and walk across the famous East and West Walkways for a breathtaking bird’s eye view across the whole of London. If they’re lucky, their visit may coincide with a bridge lift to let a ship pass up or down stream.
The KS2 Education Pack, which can be downloaded from the website, www.towerbridge.org.uk, is crammed with exercises that breathe life into the people and stories behind the construction of the Bridge. The activities have been designed to help develop skills in key national curriculum subjects including English, History, Geography, Citizenship, Science and Maths. They can be done before, during or after a visit to the Bridge to help teachers deliver an engaging and rounded project.
School visits to Tower Bridge can be booked by contacting 020 7403 3761 or enquiries@towerbridge.org.uk. The Bridge is open from 9.30am-6pm between October and March and 10am-6.30pm from April to September.
