Rockford's Rock Opera
Rockford’s Rock Opera is a unique free audio book – an ecological musical story with songs, clear narration, animated videos and FREE teaching resources. What’s more, it’s now being used by over 4,000 primary schools around the world and is gathering thousands of evangelical fans.
Much of the content is FREE and, don’t worry, it’s not really an ‘opera’ or ‘rock’ music either, in fact, it’s like absolutely nothing else!
Although Rockford’s Rock Opera appeals to all ages, 7 – 11 year olds find the story and the facts behind the fiction particularly fascinating.
Here’s what one primary school Literacy Manager said recently about Rockford’s Rock Opera: “Want a multi-media resource to meet the challenges of the Primary Framework for Literacy? Well, you must try Rockford’s Rock Opera!
A chance click of the computer mouse, after a long and fruitless search of the internet looking for inspiration, led me to this superb resource. It is a cornucopia of different media: video, spoken word, music, drama, pictures and written texts.
It tells the story of a dog called Rockford and how he travels, by mistake, to the land of Infinity, the final home of all extinct animals, with devastating results. Only Moog, his young owner can save Rockford and all dogs from extinction . The story has a very powerful message of conservation and of how humans can learn and benefit from a wide diversity of animal and plant life.
This wonderful resource gave a very wide range of opportunities for speaking and listening, drama, reading and writing.
My class of year 4, middle and lower ability children all absolutely loved it!! Rockford took over our whole classroom and was used as the inspiration for work in almost every other subject – a truly cross- curricular theme.
We celebrated our work in an assembly shown to the rest of the school, parents and friends. The children excelled themselves and their learning and self confidence has exceeded all expectations.
Please take a look and find out the creatures’ secrets. You and your pupils will not regret it.”
