A new website launched to showcase the best online resources for young engineers

Discover Engineering (www.discoverengineering.co.uk), a new website for young people aged 10 - 19, has been launched today. The site is a not-for-profit venture which has been developed and funded by Gradcracker - the careers website for engineering graduates - and its purpose is to showcase the best online resources for young engineers.

It is hoped that the site will encourage and inspire young people to consider engineering as a career and that it will provide them with knowledge about the career and educational pathways they can take.

Discover Engineering is a gateway to over 400 websites. These include sites for different age groups, sites developed by specific sectors within  engineering, government sites, career guidance sites and educational establishment sites.

These have all been sorted for relevance and quality and then categorised for ease of reference. There is also a free facility for employers to list any engineering vacancies or training schemes which are available to young (pre-university) people.

Annie Greenfield-Edwards from Discover Engineering said “Gradcracker felt  that, whilst there were hundreds of excellent websites with information relevant to young engineers, there needed to be an online directory to enable them to be easily accessed.

Our aim has been to bring these sites all together under one roof. On Discover Engineering, young people will now find everything they need to know about how to become an engineer.”

Gradcracker is committed to continuing to fully fund Discover Engineering in the future but it would be pleased to accept sponsorship from other relevant organisations as well. These revenues would be used to help with marketing Discover Engineering to the target audience – young people with an interest in Engineering.
