Understanding Slavery Initiative Children’s Learning Consultant Request for Proposals
The Understanding Slavery Initiative (USI) is actively seeking an
experienced, enthusiastic, passionate and motivated Children’s Learning Consultant (Consultant). They will support developing best practice in teaching and learning about transatlantic slavery. The Consultant will develop, test and disseminate a set of approaches to the teaching and learning of transatlantic slavery for Early Years, Primary School and family audiences.
Since the introduction of the new Secondary Curriculum USI has seen an increase in the number of requests for teacher training, resources, guidance, support and approaches to the teaching and learning of this history and its legacies. We have also seen a significant increase in the number of requests from Primary Schools and anticipate more following the proposed introduction of a revised Primary Curriculum.
The Children’s Learning Consultant will seek to meet the learning needs of Primary teachers and educators working with children and families about this history. The Consultant will also work with USI’s key stakeholders to determine and provide support for teachers. They will demonstrate the use of cross-curricular approaches and appropriate transitional methods and materials for students going from Early Years to Primary and from Primary to Secondary School.
