Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures
A major exhibition of the international archaeological sensation, featuring a spectacular reconstruction of the Pharaoh’s tomb and treasures -‘Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures’ carries visitors on a captivating journey through time into the lost wonders of ancient Egypt and reveals the epic story of the discovery of the forgotten tomb of the ‘Boy King’.
With the assistance of leading Egyptologists and using sketches and diary notes made by Howard Carter and original photographs, three burial chambers and an extensive collection of the most important treasures of Tutankhamun have been authentically recreated. Over 2,500 square metres of exhibition space and state-of-the-art multimedia technology will bring to life the story of Tutankhamun and the fascinating cultural and spiritual world of ancient Egypt; its funerary cults, gods and mysterious hieroglyphic script.
Replicas of 1,000 burial artefacts, intended to equip the young Pharaoh on his journey to the afterlife, have been painstakingly reproduced to scale by expert Egyptian craftsmen and can be viewed in the recreated burial chambers. These include jewellery, cult objects, amulets, coffers, chests, chairs, weapons, a stunning golden chariot, large golden shrines and the iconic death mask.
‘Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures’ has already delighted over 1,700,000 visitors across Europe. Visit it at the RDS Industries Hall tickets available from www.ticketmaster.ie and the RDS Box Office. Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures
A major exhibition of the international archaeological sensation, featuring a spectacular reconstruction of the Pharaoh’s tomb and treasures -‘Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures’ carries visitors on a captivating journey through time into the lost wonders of ancient Egypt and reveals the epic story of the discovery of the forgotten tomb of the ‘Boy King’ who died under mysterious circumstances aged only 19.
Replicas of 1,000 burial artefacts, intended to equip the young Pharaoh on his journey to the afterlife, have been painstakingly reproduced to scale by expert Egyptian craftsmen and can be viewed in the recreated burial chambers and in an extensive and detailed display.
Historical Interest

Letters, Lives and Liberty.

Dublin has a new boutique museum in the GPO.  The new museum hosts an exhibition Letters, Lives and Liberty, which explores the influence of the Post Office in Ireland and offers an insight into the often quiet but always vital role played by Post Office people in the development of Irish life and society over the generations.

Put together by Stephen Ferguson, An Post’s Assistant Secretary and historian, the museum offers something for everyone. From stamps and letters to An Post’s copy of the 1916 Proclamation and the little-known story of the staff who were actually on duty in the GPO on Easter Monday, the exhibition offers visitors a unique way to learn about important aspects of Irish life and history.

Within a small space, the museum makes effective use of traditional cabinet displays, clever interactive technology and a Pepper’s Ghost drama of the GPO on Easter Monday 1916. The euro2 entrance charge is modest and visitors of all ages should enjoy the experience and leave with a greater appreciation of the contribution of the Post Office to daily life in Ireland over the years.
