We are all aware that time is of the essence when treating the seriously injured. A working knowledge of basic first aid can prolong a person’s life until the professionals arrive on the scene.  These skills don’t take long to learn and can literally mean the difference between life and death.

DID YOU KNOW?

Once the heart stops beating, brain death occurs within 4 to 6 minutes.  If CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) is given within 4 minutes, the chance of survival doubles.

A blocked airway can kill a person in 3 to 4 minutes.  It can take more than 8 minutes for an ambulance to arrive.  A simple procedure of opening someone’s airway can save their life whilst they wait for emergency help.

The largest percentage of casualties are in the under 5’s and over 75’s.

 Whether you are a parent, school teacher or childcare worker, you may find yourself in a situation where you need to provide emergency care for someone.  Would you know what to do?  In the 90 minutes it takes to watch ‘The Complete Guide to first Aid’ and ‘The ABC’s of CPR’, you could learn enough first aid to save a life.  The DVD’s do not qualify you to become a first aider, but do teach you vital life saving skills.
