OFF THE HOOK

Off the Hook – a teen comedy series about university freshers – coming soon to BBC Three and BBC Switch - the show will be broadcast on Thursdays at 8pm from September 10th 2009 on BBC3

Off The Hook piloted as Fresh last September on the BBC’s new crossplatform station BBC Switch and was an instant hit. Fresh has now become Off The Hook and the seven episode series debuts on BBC3 and BBC Switch this Autumn.

The show will include original cast members Jonathan Bailey as ‘Danny’, Danny Morgan, who since Fresh has co-presented on Channel 4’s Tonightly, as ‘Shane’,  Joanna Cassidy as ‘Scarlet’ and James Buckley,  who most famously appeared as young deviant Jay in the Inbetweeners, as ‘Fred’. They will be joined by an ensemble of supporting roles that include Felicity Montagu and rising comedy stars Georgia King and Jonny Sweet.

Off the Hook is a comedy set on campus at Bankside University, exploring the lives of a mismatched group of fresh-faced students and their first taste of independent life, with all the mishaps and misadventures that entails.  Series One plots a calamitous course from the social whirlwind of fresher’s week through the first term of university – each episode a new comic adventure.

The story centres on Danny, who just wants to cut his past loose and get on with his life… but he’s about to get an earth-shattering blast from the past in the form of Shane, his outrageous ‘slacker’ mate from school – the ‘worst best friend ever’.   Blagging his way into last minute clearing, Shane proceeds to gatecrash Danny’s entire uni existence and ransack his best-laid plans.  Sharing the flat with our hapless heroes are the feisty Scarlet and the permanently morose Fred – who has misanthropy down to an art.

Geoffrey Goodwin, Head of BBC Switch says: “Off the Hook is an aspirational comedy which combines superb storylines with a young British cast. Moving a show from online to TV is a great creative process which allows us to really develop the show and nurture the talent while building up a dedicated following online so that the show has a lot of thrust and energy behind it when it hits TV.”

BIG AND SMALL

Variety is the spice of life and Big and Small are set to spice up CBeebies in the new pre-school show due to air this Autumn 2008.  Celebrating the delightful differences between two best friends, every episode contains BIG fun which will keep little kids, big kids and parents learning and laughing together.   With legendary actor and comedian, Lenny Henry bringing his comic talent to the voices of Big and Small and Imelda Staunton adding her distinctive warmth and charm to the voices of Big and Small’s neighbours and friends, this is one big adventure not to be missed.

Big and Small is about two best friends who couldn’t be more different. One is big and the other is small. The show follows their adventures as they try to live together in a chaotic house and garden in the country, creating an explosion of laughs as well as some genuinely touching moments of friendship and understanding.  Big is big and hugely huggable.  He is gentle, kind, careful, considerate, thoughtful and fair.  He can be a little dreamy, occasionally indecisive and annoyingly tidy (you have never known anyone who loves to hoover as much as he does!).  Big loves inventing and has ideas for wonderful machines like a sunshine catcher. He’s easily distracted which sometimes drives Small CRAZY!   Small is fast, loud, exuberant, dramatic and very, very thoughtless. For Small the world is a never-ending adventure. You’ve got to be strong and resilient if you’re small, not to mention loud and persistent! For Small, the impossible always seems possible and nothing will stop him on his next mission. He wakes up every morning thinking “What’s for breakfast?” and after that “What amazing new scary impossible thing can we do today?” Despite their differences, they make a great team…well, usually.

The philosophy of Big and Small centres upon celebrating difference in a world too often divided by differing viewpoints.  Big and Small teaches that despite cultural and physical differences, children can learn to accept each other, think beyond themselves and be thoughtful and considerate of others.
