Families offered the chance to try out a new sport for free
Olympic legend Sir Matthew Pinsent backs initiative to give families a free try-out of nearly 40 sports
Are you desperate to get your children off their computers, away from the TV and outside into a more healthy pursuit?
Many of us spend a lot of time encouraging our young ones to put their energies into athletic activities but face opposition from our children. Whether they’re bored with the sports they have already tried or discouraged when they don’t succeed at more traditional pursuits, it can often lead them to give up on ever finding a sporty interest that they can really enjoy.
Well, a new initiative being launched this summer could be just the ticket.
The Get Set, Go Free campaign is offering families the opportunity to try out nearly 40 sports for free at over 4,600 venues and it’s being backed by one of our greatest ever sporting heroes, rowing legend Sir Matthew Pinsent.
From more traditional sports such as cricket, football, rugby and swimming to more out-there pursuits such as windsurfing, snowboarding, white water rafting and paint-balling, the list of possibilities is endless for those wanting to give their family a fun new sporting opportunity.
Of course, also on the list is the sport that made the four-time Olympic gold medallist a national sporting hero and who knows, maybe your child might just be inspired to emulate one of our great rowers, swimmers or wheelchair athletes after a day of trying out a new and exciting sport.
Also lending their support to the Get Set, Go Free campaign is another Olympic rowing champion Pete Reed, world champion diving sensation Tom Daley, leading British wheelchair athlete Shelly Woods and swimming sensation Fran Halsall.
These legendary athletes have got right into the spirit of the initiative by trying out new sports themselves and can’t wait to get as many families around Great Britain and Ireland involved in the free activities on offer.
