PIRATE PARTY GUIDE
DECORATIONS:
Dark colours such as black and red are usually associated with pirates, so balloons and party streamers in these colours are a great start. Banners welcoming guests aboard Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship Jack finds himself on in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, will help start the adventure. Cut out large pieces of cardboard and allow guests to “walk the plank” as they enter the party. Why not play the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES soundtrack throughout the party so that the guests feel like they are part of the movie!
COSTUME:
Every kid loves dress up so when you send your invitations out, make it a PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES dress up party – “Ahoy mateys! As we search for the pirates’ chest, make sure to come in ye pirates best dressed ” Guests can come dressed in their pirates best by wearing a white cotton shirt, black sweatpants, a vest or anything else that you may find! As guests arrive, allow them to enter the captain’s cabin (a small designated area of your home) where they’ll be transformed into a sailor of the seven seas! Here you can draw moustaches or beards on guests with face paint. Allow them to pick their favourite pirate accessories such as bandanas, fake jewellery, stick-on tattoos, and fake swords!
FOOD:
It’s a tough job being a pirate, and you can certainly work up your appetite! Kids love foods that have creative names so rename some of your favourite recipes to make them pirate-friendly! Make sure that snacks such as goldfish crackers, gummy fish, pirates plank (peanut butter on celery sticks) and pirates booty are readily available! For a more substantial food fix, chicken wings, golden nuggets (chicken nuggets) fish and chips and slimy seaweed pasta (pasta in a pesto sauce) are great choices! Some dessert ideas are Blackbeard’s banana bread or a pirates-themed party cake (make your own or buy from a store.)
GAMES/ACTIVITIES:
Guess Ye Pirate
Print out pictures of the characters from PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES such as Angelica, Jack Sparrow, Syrena, Scrum, Philip, Blackbeard, Gibbs, Barbossa, and anyone else you can think of! Tape a picture of a different character to each guest’s back without them looking. Then have the other guests give clues such as male, female, eye patch, clothing, etc. This will familiarize party guests with the new characters!
Treasure Hunt
No pirate party is complete without a treasure hunt! Make a treasure chest out of a cardboard box (bedazzle with jewels if you want, but it doesn’t have to be perfect!) Fill the chest with gold-coin chocolate, toys, other candy, and anything else you can think of! Hide the chest in a secret location in the house or outside. Split the guests into groups of 2 or 3 “crews” and give them a map to find the treasure. This rolled-up map should include a set of about 10 clues that will lead guests to the loot! Clues should be creative and written in true pirate form! For example “Argh! Ye pirates will find this clue if ye are smart and able, right underneath the kitchen table!”
Make yer own Jolly Roger flag
Every pirate knows that their flag is part of their identity! Who says that every pirate flag has to have a skull and crossbones? Creating a flag of yer own will give ye yearning mates a chance to get creative! Give each guest a premade flag in white or black to avoid assembling them. Provide glitter pens, stickers, fabric markers and paint to help decorate.
