Why parents should do their homework on school trips

School trips offer opportunities for your child to learn about a subject in a whole new environment and bring learning to life in a way that can’t be recreated in the classroom. It’s also a valuable time to bond with classmates and can create some of their most treasured school memories.

 

In fact research has shown that students are more engaged when learning outside the classroom and also benefit from a social and cultural education at the same time.

 

But whilst school trips can provide a valuable immersion in other cultures and languages, it can be concerning as a parent to see your child go abroad or be away from home, often their first time away from their parents for a significant period of time.

 

So what does your child actually get up to while they are away, what are they experiencing and what benefits are they getting from it? You may only get one word answers from your child, but as a parent you may not be aware of the huge social, cultural and educational benefits of your child’s school trip. And before you sign that next consent form you’ll want to know exactly what your child will be seeing and doing.
