If you can juggle family and work, how about taking up circus performing?

New competition launched to urge us to share our hobbies with the family

It can be hard work juggling family life, especially if you are trying to climb the career ladder at the same time. But now a new campaign is urging all of us to take our part-time interests to the next level. Despite our busy lives, new research shows we are still a nation driven by our hobbies and passions and there should be no reason why we should not share our interests with other family members.

Even if you are already juggling lots of responsibilities it appears the vast majority of us have a passion, hobby or pastime. Whether it is dancing or stamp collecting, board games or train-spotting there’s not much we haven’t tried.  But while we may not be shy in trying new things, many of us are bashful when it comes to admitting what we’re passionate about, with nearly half of people saying they often don’t talk to other people about their interests. One man who took the plunge and shared his passion with his family is Dags who celebrates his passion for Viking history by re-enacting famous battles at the weekends. As the leader of a group of 60 battle re-enactors and historian entertainers he aims to bring history to life for a variety of audiences UK-wide.

“This passion I have for Viking re-enactment is so important to me because it’s a break from my normal life, a stress release from the tensions of work,” explains Dags. “People have a misconception of Vikings and have little or no knowledge of Viking times so it’s also great to know that I am educating people about my passion through the living history and combat displays.  Hopefully by seeing what I do I’m also encouraging people to be proud of their own hobbies and not be embarrassed to speak about them.”

With popular talent shows like Britain’s Got Talent and Strictly Come Dancing proving a firm favourite for adults and children alike, perhaps it’s about time you tried something new together? And don’t worry, with a little imagination, it does not have to be very time consuming or expensive. So what can you do if you’d love to really let your passion flourish? Well, Wall’s are searching for those of us with special interests to come forward and apply for their Bring it on Britain Awards scheme to help take these personal passions to the next level.
