Major UK report identifies significant gaps and weaknesses in children’s health information

* Children and young people who have chronic health conditions or need operations don’t always have access to the high-quality, child-friendly information they need to understand what is happening to them.

* The NHS-funded Children’s Health Information Matters report, launched today, highlights the need for children to be provided with information that is engaging, accessible, accurate and appropriate for their age.

* It was put together by a unique team, led by Professors at Bangor and Cardiff Universities, that included media and journalism specialists, a children’s illustrator, health services researchers, children’s researchers, anthropologists, doctors, nurses and psychologists.

* The report has been welcomed by the Royal College of Nursing.

* The attached press release outlines the key findings and includes quotes from a young person and mother. A separate attachment provides more detailed quotes. I have also attached a copy of the lay summary as the main report is well over 400 pages.

* Link to report and lay summary here

* Professor Jane Noyes (co-author) and Sally (mum) are available for interview via Wizard. Harriet (young person) may also be available subject to College commitments.
