Is Your School ‘Up For Reading’?
Children with Down syndrome sometimes need additional help to learn. Reading is often something that young people with Down syndrome can be
good at. The Down Syndrome Educational Trust is a leading charity that works to understand the difficulties experienced by people with Down Syndrome and how we can most effectively help them to achieve their best. We help many thousands of people with Down syndrome around the world every week.
Up for Reading is a fun and educational sponsored reading event for schools. It can be easily integrated within everyday literacy activities. It simply involves encouraging children to read for just a few minutes every day for one week and asking their family and friends to sponsor their efforts. Children can read in a group or by themselves, at school or at home. It’s a great way to encourage reading and to help raise important funds to support the work of The Down Syndrome Educational Trust.
Every child who takes part in Up for Reading will have the opportunity to win a fabulous Maisy painting, their name in a Michael Morpurgo novel or valuable book tokens. In addition, nurseries or schools raising more than £50 for Up for Reading will have the opportunity to win £500 worth of National Book Tokens.
