72 MILLION CHILDREN AROUND THE WORLD GO WITHOUT ANY EDUCATION
NEW CHARITY AIMS TO HELP TO TACKLE THIS INJUSTICE
Primary Education for All is a UK based charity [Registration Number: 1137077] established in 2008. The charity’s aim is to raise money to fund small-scale projects in developing countries to help provide primary education for every child wherever we are able to. In developing countries many children aged 4 - 11 years old are denied their basic human right to a free primary education. The charity also aims to help raise awareness of this issue in developed countries where children already receive this basic human right.
The charity is currently supporting a number of projects including:
- Murungurune Primary School is located in the foothills of Mount Kenya. The School is in an area where many parents do not see education as a top priority as a result of alcohol and drug misuse. The School is in need of improvements to its fabric and is looking to introduce its pupils to computers through the introduction of an I.C.T. room which can also be used by the wider community.
- In Uganda we support Wheeling Primary School and The Shalom Village Medi Care Centre, both run by The Molly and Paul Child Care Foundation. After realising the need for the children in Kansanga to
have education, Paul and Molly decided to open up a school in this slum area. School fees were a problem. Parents were sending their children to sell chapatti, nuts , maize etc ... to make a living. Paul and Molly thought it fit to help these families have their children educated. The school was started in 1983. It was a humble beginning with a total number of 100 pupils. Parents were asked for very little money but some were still unable to pay at the end of the first term. This trend has continued but the number of students has been growing year by year because of the School's good performance - children score highly in the National examinations and have joined some of the best Secondary schools in Uganda.
- Primary Education for All also working towards supporting a number of children living in the slum areas of Nairobi whose parents are unable to afford for them to go to school or to pay for basic medications for them.
