The KidsOutdoors Campaign

The KidOutdoors campaign, being led by The Scout Association, aims to inspire a million new outdoor adventures. We want more young people to embrace outdoor activities and find that doing things outdoors is a more attractive alternative to TV and computer games.

KidsOutdoors hopes to change perceptions of today's young people and challenge them to spend more time outdoors. Some of the campaign aims are:

  • To get more people outside, living healthier lifestyles by encouraging parents and young people to engage in one million outdoor adventures across the UK
  • To give young people a greater voice on an issue we know matters to them
  • To promote diversity, integration and understanding in our communities through outdoor activities
  • To get more people involved in youth organisations as a member or an adult volunteer
  • To raise £10 million for investment into facilities and resources to encourage young people in the UK to experience outdoor adventure.

Matt Mills, Campaign Manager for KidsOutdoors said "Our research has shown that young people that take part in outdoor activities really enjoy them, understand the benefits and want to do more; but fears of safety, pressures on time and money, and lack of knowledge all contribute to the fact that hundreds of thousands of young people in the UK are rarely, if ever, experience outdoor adventure. We believe that young people that take part in outdoor activities are healthier and less overweight. Outdoor activities can bring young people from different schools and backgrounds together and help challenge, motivate and inspire them."

The KidsOutdoors website, www.kidsoutdoors.com, gives an opportunity for young people, parents, teachers and youth leaders to find ideas and inspiration on outdoor activities, and then to upload videos, blogs and pictures about the activities they've enjoyed. What's your adventure?
