DRIVE IN CINEMA SUCCESS ANNIVERSARY FOR LOCAL BUSINESS MEN IN CARRIGTWOHILL

The first drive in cinema in Ireland and the UK is going down a treat in Carrigtwohill, with people travelling from all over Ireland and even Europe to come and enjoy the experience of watching new releases in the privacy of their own car for a 16 euros per vehicle irregarless of occupancy. There would usually be 3 to 4 people per car.

The brainchild of local entrepreneurs, Watergrasshill residents, Stephen and Ellie Redmond, and John Caulfield Carrigaline's resident. Movie Junction  has  been in operation for one year since the 19th of November 2010 and  this  business venture has turned into a phenomenal success despite the challenging business environment. Movie Junction  opened its doors with sold out shows for Harry Potter and history is likely to repeat itself this weekend with the highly awaited release of Breaking Dawn, the latest in the Twilight saga. Tickets are flying out the door with booking online on www.moviejunction.ie for the past  week.

“People simply love it. They try it once and they always come back.  We have thousands of  followers on Facebook and yet the word still has to get out there in a bigger way. By this time next year our aim is to have every Cork couple and family  having visited us at least once" says Ellie Redmond.
"The Drive In Cinema has become a weekly venue for many locals and the feedback is excellent. With shows starting after dusks all year round, 7 nights a week, we find that our late show at 10pm or10.30 pm is highly popular summer or winter alike even on week days  " comments John Caulfield
"It is a new business and a brand new concept. A substantial investment was involved in the set up and future development plans for Cork are at an advanced stage, told us Stephen Redmond. Movie Junction is currently looking at new possible sites around the country for 2012 but the locations have not as yet been made public.

A WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE
“It’s just a whole new different concept for Cinema in Ireland, where people can enjoy  freshly made warm popcorn while they wait for Four Star Pizza Midleton to deliver their favourite hot food to their car as they enjoy the latest blockbusters. People don’t have to turn off their mobiles, and they can bring their children if they wish with complete peace of mind. The kids movies are always a big hit with families such as the  Lion King. We expect Happy Feet 2  to be very popular too in December along with other great releases.
"We are constantly looking for more opportunities to take advantage of the onsite facilities (canopies protecting cars from rain and wind, kitchen and toilets) with the aim of developing a strong relationship with the local community."said Ellie Redmond
"Ideas such as a car boot sale on Sundays during the day, fairs, and even a teenage disco have been brought forward and we are always welcoming new ideas,” she concluded. The current site has a capacity for 100 cars per show under canopies and there are future development plans for extra 70 to 100 cars in Cartigtwohill.

To celebrate Movie Junction's first anniversary in style, you will  spoiled for choice with Santa Claus the movie at 6.30pm, Twilight Breaking Dawn at 8pm and Immortals at 10.30pm

Tickets can be purchased at the door or online.
