Recycled Masterpieces

Celebrated artist creates iconic sculptures out of recyclable materials to raise awareness of the nation’s approach to waste

We are getting better at recycling. Research shows the vast majority of us recycle items such as paper (89 per cent), glass bottles and jars (84 per cent). But less than a third of us say we are recycling less common items such as electronic equipment, from microwaves to televisions and anything in between.

To help show exactly what items can be recycled, a number of local authorities around the country are raising awareness of the broad range of materials we can all recycle.  Ten sculptures are being created from recyclable materials that often turn up in landfill sites around the country. Iconic pieces have been created in Canterbury, Southampton, Bristol, Plymouth, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Sunderland and Norwich by celebrated sculptor Stuart Murdoch.
