Recipes for Children to Make
Summer is nearly here and this is a great recipe for children to make and enjoy..
Traffic Light Fruit salad
1 small cantaloupe melon
350g strawberries
Half small cucumber
For the syrup
250 ml water
1 sprig mint
Juice half lemon
1tbsp Fairtrade sugar
- Make the syrup. Put all ingredients into a pan over a gentle heat. Bring to the boil and boil rapidly to reduce the liquid by half. Allow the syrup to cool completely. Remove the mint.
- Prepare the melon into balls or chunks.
- Hull and wash the strawberries and cut any large ones in half.
- Wash and slice the cucumber into 1cm slices and cut each piece into four.
- Mix the orange melon balls, strawberries and cucumber together in a bowl and pour the syrup over the fruit.
- Recipe tested with children at Alyth out of School Club – funded by Community Food and Health Scotland
