Recipes for Children's Meals

Chick Pea Burgers

Makes 6

What to find:

1 x 400 tin chick peas (well drained)

Two tablespoons homemade basil paste (or pesto)

50g wholemeal flour

Extra flour

Oil

Kitchen Stuff:

Tin opener

Large Sieve

Food processor

Large bowl

Potato basher

Damp cloth

Frying pan

Turner/ fish slice/ drainer

What to do:

Drain the chick peas in a sieve.

Mix the chick peas, basil paste and flour together in a food processor. If haven’t got a food processor put everything into a big bowl and use a potato basher to bash the ingredients together. Little bashes will keep the mixture in the bowl. Put a damp cloth under the bowl to stop it from moving as you bash.

If you are using a food processor ask the grown up to remove the blade. Mould six burgers with ‘floured’ hands.

Heat a frying pan with a little oil until it is hot.

Fry the burgers on both sides until they are brown and crispy (2 minutes each side).

Serve with salad or a homemade tomato sauce.

To Make Basil Paste

50g basil (leaves only)

50g finely grated parmesan cheese

One large clove garlic crushed

Approx 100ml olive oil

Place the basil, parmesan cheese and garlic in a food processor and blend. Add enough olive oil to blend to a thick paste.
