You might be able to work out how much energy your home uses on an average day just by looking at your power bill, but if watts and kilowatts mean nothing to you then it’s hard to really put your energy usage into perspective.
In an effort to show people which appliances use the most energy, Baxi Ecogen have teamed up with Olympic and World Champion Cyclist Nicole Cooke to show how much pedal power it takes to fire up a lightbulb, a kettle, a microwave and lots of other everyday household items.
Watch the following video feature to see how much time on the bike it takes Olympic cycling gold medalist Nicole Cooke to make enough energy to fuel your home.
The Baxi Ecogen dual energy system, manufactured by UK boiler manufacturer Baxi, is being heralded as the biggest revolution in the home heating industry since the condensing boiler. It is a wall hung gas boiler that generates electricity you can use in your home at the same time as it provides your heating and hot water and can save households hundreds of pounds on their annual fuel bills.
In addition, it is eligible for the Feed-in Tariff. This means their energy supplier will pay them 10p for every kilowatt of electricity they generate and a further 3p for any electricity they don’t use which is returned to the electricity grid. And it can help to substantially reduce the home’s carbon footprint. The energy consumption figures used in this Baxi Ecogen video use average values and may change according to the model and age of any appliance. They are only intended as a guide.
