Bring learning to life with ‘Facteria’
The subject of bacteria is a fascinating and important one for children - but it can be challenging to teach pupils about something too tiny to be seen with the naked eye.
So as a helping hand, the friendly bacteria experts at Yakult have launched ’Facteria’, a new educational booklet designed to help children gain a better understanding of the world of microorganisms. Intended for teachers to use as a Key Stage 2 supplement, the booklet explains the way in which microorganisms feed, grow & reproduce, and illustrating the ways in which they can be both beneficial and harmful.
The free publication brings bacteria to life as a series of colourful cartoon characters, thus helping to engage children with the subject and make learning easier – and more fun!
The independently authored book is written in a simple yet captivating style, helping children fully understand and appreciate the importance of the microorganisms around them.
Throughout the pages of the booklet, your class will:
Find out how bacteria can help plants to grow and humans to live but also how they can hinder us in various ways such as food poisoning.
Be introduced to the different types of bacteria
Pick up practical tips and advice on how to nurture ‘good’ bacteria and avoid bad bacteria.
Discover fascinating and easy to understand facts about bacteria – Did you know, for example, that an adult gut contains 1.5kg of bacteria?
Follow the helpful links to independent sites containing a wealth of further information about bacteria – from live images of cells dividing, to information on how to use bacteria to your advantage and make yoghurt at home.
The booklet is being made available free of charge. To download or order a single copy, please visit www.yakult.co.uk/publications or call 0845 769 7069.
