Meningitis Awareness

Every day in the UK 9 people will become ill with meningitis and septicaemia – the blood poisoning form of the disease. Each week 6 of these will die.

Of those who recover, 15 will suffer after-effects as severe as brain damage, deafness and amputations. Anyone can catch meningitis, but babies and young children are most at risk.

It is vitally important to be aware of the symptoms of these devastating diseases. Be especially vigilant for the three ‘Red Flag’ early warning symptoms: Limb/joint/muscle pain, cold hands and feet, and pale or mottled skin. Knowing these symptoms will save lives.

For a free symptoms information pack, call Meningitis Research Foundation’s Freefone 24 hour helpline 080 8800 3344 – or visit our website www.meningitis.org
