WAGGY TAILS ALL ROUND FOR TEACHERS AND PUPILS
Dogs Trust Launch Exciting New Education Resources.
Planning lessons can drive you barking mad, but Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity are here to help. Their website www.learnwithdogs.co.uk has a wide variety of FREE curriculum friendly classroom resources in various subjects. Teachers can also book a FREE visit from one of our Education Officers. Working in West London, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the North East and North West regions of the UK, the Education Officers use the theme of dog ownership as a means to help pupils develop self-esteem, confidence, responsibility, communication and teamwork skills.
Dogs Trust believes that by educating young people about the responsibilities and commitment involved in dog ownership, it will help reduce the number of dogs that are mistreated and abandoned, as well as teaching children all-important tips on how to interact with dogs safely and enjoyably.
Dogs Trust Youth Education Manager Hollie Sevenoaks comments:
“It’s wonderful to see how our educational programme has grown. Our website and workshops are always popular and by making resources fun and informative it’s an ideal way for children to learn.”
TEACHING DOG LOVERS NEW TRICKS.
UK’s largest dog welfare charity launches educational programme abroad.
Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity is on tour in Hungary this week, running training seminars for representatives from international animal welfare charities. The sessions will be run by Head of Education Hollie Sevenoaks and Dogs Trust West London’s Education Officer Natalie Dexter. Dogs Trust already runs a large educational outreach programme in the UK and this seminar will enable representatives from countries such as Romania, Poland and Serbia to run education programmes in their own country. The event will take place at ‘Animal Island’, a pioneering animal shelter, based on the Dogs Trust model.
Dog’s Trust’s Head of Education, Hollie Sevenoaks commented:
“Educational outreach work is an incredibly important part of our strategy. Primary school aged children are very receptive and are still forming their own opinions about their surroundings. We also hope that some of the knowledge picked up by children may filter down to parents and their peers. Kids love to tell parents what they’re doing wrong! We’re glad that these seminars will help us spread our message even further!”
Launching these seminars in Eastern Europe is just one way Dogs Trust help dogs abroad. They also host the International Companion Animal Welfare Conference (ICAWC) and are part of the organization SOS dogs Oradea, an organization which promotes a ‘catch, neuter and return’ policy as the only humane way to reduce the Romanian stray dog population and is supplemented by an education programme to change local attitudes towards the stray dog population. Dogs Trust is working towards the day when all dogs can enjoy a happy life, free from the threat of unnecessary destruction, not just in the UK but all over the world.
