Bunja, The new educational toy from Crocodile Clips Ltd
Bunja is the new ‘smart toy’ from Crocodile Clips that promises to improve children’s mathematical skills, as well as taking them on an exciting (and sometimes scary!) adventure in the rainforests of Borneo.
Based on MP3 technology, Bunja is a screenless audio toy that covers 100 maths topics from UK curricula and can be used by a single child, or as many as ten children at a time. It can be used with headphones, making it handy for car trips.
The toy poses mathematical questions and when children do well they are rewarded with a section of the interactive rainforest adventure, in which the character ‘Sam’ has to escape from evil loggers.
As well as boosting maths skills, the game also introduces concepts like bio-fuels and bio-diversity. Bunja can track how a child performs and then tailor its questions to work on weak areas. It can also generate a report for adults to monitor how a child is progressing.
Priced around £19.99, Bunja is suitable for children between six and 11.

Bunja Review:
This is a great toy for making kids interested in Maths, each child gets asked a number of mathematical questions which start easy and become harder along the way and they are given three answers to chose from. Once they complete one section they are able to hear part of the story where a family crash land in Borneo and you need to solve that mystery too. It held my 8 year old captive for ½ hr which is a great achievement as lessons are not her strong point. The advantage that you can use head phones as well means the kids can work on this anywhere. For any child who could do with a boost in maths skills would find this a real benefit.
