Miranda Hart Creates a Brand New Disney Channel Web Series, So Sammy

Miranda Hart has created a new web series, So Sammy, with writer Rob Evans, and producer Jo Sargent, for the Disney Channel app. The quirky drama comedy, which is the first ever series produced for the app, is set to make its debut on Saturday 18 February at 10:00am. The new series also marks Hart’s first venture into children’s television and will be produced by King Bert Productions, the production company she launched in 2014 with David Walliams and Jo Sargent.

Aimed at kids aged six to 12, the 10 x 2 minute series is the first series to be produced for the Disney Channel app. The series revolves around the vlog of upbeat and spirited lead character Sammy, played by the BAFTA award winning Harley Bird. Each webisode follows the everyday dilemmas of Sammy and her friends and chronicles the relationship with her party shop owning mother and French, soon-to-be, stepbrother.

Harley Bird will be joined by a talented European cast including Maxence Seva who plays stepbrother Ollie, newcomer Abe Allen and India Ria Amarteifio who play Sammy’s besties Jay and Sid.  Elizabeth Bower, plays Elly, proud mum of Frankie. The first two webisodes will premiere on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 with the remaining eight rolling out in the same timeslot each weekend for five weeks.

Miranda Hart, told Primary Times, “I hope kids everywhere will be enchanted by lovely, funny Sammy who gets herself in to many silly scrapes and adventures, much to our delight.  With the show set in the intriguing world of tween vlogging, it is a perfect fit that So Sammy has its platform on the Disney Channel app.”

The Disney Channel app has already launched in the UK and France in November 2016 and has already proven to be a firm favourite with kids and fans who are able to access the best snack-sized Disney Channel content on demand. The free app, which has no in app purchases, provides access to short form interactive content including mini-games, videos, memes, GIFs and images. Kids also receive exclusive tutorials from their much-loved Disney Channel stars and behind-the-scenes access to their favourite programmes and original movies including Descendants, Liv and Maddie, K.C. Undercover, and Elena of Avalor, as well as local production The Lodge.
