Teachers-UK surprise pupils with Mansfield Town Mascot experience!

Brother and sister received the surprise in school assembly from Sammy the Stag

A brother and sister from Croft Primary School in Sutton-in-Ashfield have received a surprise gift from Teachers UK of a full Mascot Day at Mansfield Town Football Club.

Thomas and Daisy Fisher had no idea that they had won the prize after being nominated by their school and the only inkling that something was afoot was that Mum Carla said she might look in on them at school assembly!

Louise Hamby of Teachers UK, an education recruitment specialist based at Mansfield’s I-Centre on Hamilton Way said that there were a lot of entries but that the brother and sister stood out as a perfect fit. “Teachers-UK run this wonderful competition because we believe in putting something back into the community. As a company we operate on a national scale now- but we started right here in Mansfield back in 1997.  These two deserving winners give their best every day and we are delighted to be able to give them an experience to remember!” Louise says that Thomas and Daisy will play football on the day, meet the players before the match and receive a full kit and autographed football. The children will then warm up with players on the pitch before the 3 o’clock kick-off.

Thomas, age 7 said that he’s a fan of football and can’t wait to get on to the pitch. “I’m looking forward to being on the pitch with the mascot, I have been to Stags quite a lot. I think my Dad will be as excited as me!” Daisy age 6 said she was utterly surprised by the news, “I don’t know how to describe it but I am really excited!”

Mum Carla Fisher said that the day would be an exciting day for the whole family and confirmed that dad Matt, who used to play football, will be as excited as the children! “It’s been hard keeping this a secret from the children, -just because I knew how excited they would be. They are both so special and kind; and they are both sensitive and look after one another. That is what you want in your children and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Head Teacher Lizzie Blount started the assembly by explaining that Teachers UK are important to their school because they supply support staff when their own teachers are poorly. She then revealed that two lucky pupils were about to get a big surprise from the company when Sammy the Stag walked into the room! Of winners Thomas and Daisy, Lizzie Blount said, “This prize couldn’t have gone to two children who deserved it more. They are both what we at Croft Primary School call ‘Always’ children. They can always be relied upon to do all we ask and expect of them. They strive for excellence in everything they do and demonstrate good friendship skills, - in short they are a delight to be with. They light up a room and light up our lives when they arrive at school in the morning. They will have a wonderful day at the football ground and I am absolutely thrilled!”
